More about Elaine
Elaine is a Houston native – born and raised
here. Although she an her husband Hank moved to Oklahoma twice
for about 5 years each time, they came back to Houston to live
when they retired.
She started her first quilt in 1975 for the Bicentennial. She
hand quilted it and in her words, “did everything wrong”. She
had not taken any classes or been given instruction. In fact,
she didn’t finish quilting the quilt until 1985!
Elaine has an insatiable appetite for hobbies – having tried
over 63 different ones! In 1975 they moved to Oklahoma where she
took some classes in quilting at the local Community college.
While quilting captured her imagination and consumed much of her
free time, she continued other hobbies as well.
In 1985 she retired and moved to the Woodlands. She was one of
the founding members of the Conroe Quilt Guild. She formed a Bee
with several friends and remains a member of that same Bee
today!
Through the years she has taught mostly hand quilting classes at
Plain and Fancy, and has put on “Trunk Shows” for various Guilds
in the area.
She considers her style and tastes as more contemporary than
traditional.
She loves quilting so much that she now does it full time.
Fortunately, her husband helps out and she’s able to quilt to
her heart’s content.
