A fine example of Needle Turn Appliqué, this
quilt was commissioned in early '03 by Calgary Designer
Aie Rossman. Adagio took 5 months to appliqué by Bonnie Carruth.
This version of Adagio was on display at Market/Festival 2004.
About Bonnie:
The quilting obsession began in January, 1999 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada when
Oil & Gas Engineering hubby had the work permit and she had the "play permit".
In Calgary, she visited a local quilt shop and was immediately hooked.
She then immersed herself in the art; she took classes, joined Alberta
Handicrafts, the local quilt guild, volunteered at a quilt shop, and met the
most wonderful quilters.
Bonnie returned to Houston 2 years later, bringing patterns from some of
Canada's best designers.
Although she had been quilting for only a couple of years, her talents were
apparent and soon she was teaching at The Needle Nest in The Woodlands and at
The Fabric Carousel in Huntsville in '01. As her skills grew, Bonnie shared her
knowledge by adding classes at Juliene's Quilts and Plain & Fancy in '04 and '05.
Bonnie still takes annual trips back to Calgary for a "snow fix" in February and
even does some teaching while there.
Most recently, she gave a presentation to the local Appliqué Society on her very
special friend, Calgary Designer Aie (pronounced A) Rossman, and her exquisite
patterns based on her Burmese heritage. In '03 Aie commissioned Bonnie to create
Adagio, shown here. This 72" x 72" quilt is done in Batik fabric and is all
Needle Turn Appliqué on Andover background.
We look for more exquisite works from Bonnie in the future!
